2023.06.09 22:48 BaJakes Entire building issued non renewal notice to make way for short term housing
I'm sure there's no realistic way to fight this, so this is just a rant. My partner and I moved to the city a year ago for jobs. You all know how hard it is to find a house here. We spent all our savings and borrowed some on top to get into our new apartment and were issued a non-renewal 6 months later. We found out that everyone with a lease in our building got one as well. I assumed they were going to renovate them and turn them into luxury units, which sucked enough to think about, but it turns out they're just going to make them into short-term housing like an Airbnb but for medical patients. I'm so frustrated I can't even begin. There's a good chance Will have to leave the city because of this, because we didn't have enough time to save up another eight grand to get in the door of a new apartment. Does this city really need more short-term housing? Do we really need more furnished luxury units for people to stay in? I hope the day of reckoning for the Boston housing market comes soon, because all of these landlords are unsustainably greedy. I probably won't be here to watch it though.

My wife has a son (just turned 11) and a daughter (she's "basically 13" if your listen to her) from a previous marriage. I'll call the son Nick for this. He has some sight, but is legally blind. My wife and I married in January and moved in together at that time. Everything was good until mid April. Nick started having panic attacks whenever there was a bug in the house (he's always had an issue with bugs, something about not being able to see them makes him uncomfortable, but this was extreme). He got much more clingy with my wife, even though he's at that age where most boys start to distance themselves more from their moms. Then a couple weeks ago, he started having attacks right before bed, he shakes and can't fall asleep. He says he thinks he hears noises, despite the fact that we're in a very quiet neighborhood and their previous neighborhood had tons of traffic noise and weekly gunshot noises. He feels like someone is watching him, so we put a light in his room so he can see no one is in the room and we've been putting the dog in his room who will bark if anyone comes in, but he still feels too triggered to sleep. He basically stays awake until exhaustion makes him pass out. He otherwise can't point to anything specific, just bad feelings. We've tried doing what we can, reassuring him that he's safe, that nothing bad has happened to him in the house, using logic about the kinds of noises he might think he's hearing, calming music/stream noises, and more.
My wife had anxiety for years any time her ex communicated with her, which was a lot for about 8 years, apparently. She still gets PTSD symptoms when he messages her about something that isn't scheduled, like pickups for the kids. So she understands some of what he's going through (I don't, my life has been very blessed so I'm completely out of my depth here) and she has tried to explain everything to him and use that knowledge to reassure him.
We're trying to get him into therapy. He sees a speech therapist weekly to help with communication skills (there is so much to raising a blind child that you don't even think about, and communication issues are a big one) and part of that involves communicating emotions and describing your feelings. So my wife asked the speech therapist to go over some of that with him. After a couple sessions focusing on the anxiety, she decided he needed a dedicated therapist for that. So she put in a referral and the insurance company approved it. All that's left is for my wife's ex to sign the consent form, but he won't do it. He's a narcissist and was abusive towards my wife and he's always been against the kids going to therapy, partly because he still likes to exercise control over my wife whenever he can and partly because he's worried what the kids might say as child therapists are mandatory reporters in my state. My wife is currently talking with her lawyer to possibly file a motion with the court to force the matter, but that takes time. So, in the mean time, is there anything we can do for him?
Some things that might add useful context for his anxiety:
Because of a combination of my wife living in a small apartment and his infirmity, Nick slept in my wife's room until a couple years ago. My wife had a bunk bed for the kids that she found out after the purchase she couldn't assemble on her own, so I assembled it for her after we started dating. After that, he would sleep occasionally in his sister's room. I would usually visit on weekends when they're with their dad, so it wasn't a priority to move him permanently until we moved in together. But, despite him at first being worried about having to sleep in his own room regularly in a new house, he was doing fine until April.
My wife was rear-ended with both kids in the car in March of 2022. He was hurt fairly badly (some muscle bruising, no broken bones, but hit his head on the back of the driver seat), had to go to PT, and had low-grade anxiety about riding in the car for several months after. But he was doing well since about August/September, and he was never this bad while he was going through all that.
The first time he was unable to sleep, he had come back from his dad's house (they go there Friday morning to Monday night). I'm convinced something happened there, but that he doesn't have the context or vocabulary to understand what that might be.
He's nervous about going into middle school next year. He's been in a special class for blind children for the past 3 years and had a blind teacher and only like 7 kids in the class. His sister has been telling him about middle school and how hard the classes are and how many kids are in each class and how there's all these fights (she went to a pretty bad school, but they're both going to a much better middle school next year) and how he will have to go to a bunch of different classrooms throughout the day. So he's concerned about all that.
He's a, frankly, pretty weak kid. Physically, mentally, emotionally. He's always overreacted to teasing from his sister. Whenever you give him any amount of criticism, he shuts down. Whenever he encounters anything that is the least bit difficult due to his blindness, he just gives up (rather than cut his chicken or whatever, he'll take like two bites and then ask if he can be done with dinner). If you tell him that he can't have dessert or seconds or candy or whatever (he's overweight and eats like shit at his dad's house so my wife is trying to help him lose weight), he shuts down and looks like you just kicked his dog. He has trouble lifting things that an 11 year old should have no problem with (he takes swimming lessons and can't pull himself out of the pool).
His dad and stepmother basically ignore him. He sits in his room at their house and just watches/plays stuff on a tablet. Nick says he puts on YouTube on his projector in his room there until he falls asleep from exhaustion. The dad claims that he hasn't noticed any anxiety, but Nick and his sister say their dad hardly pays him any mind over there. They almost never go out and do any sort of activities, and half the times their dad did decide to go out, Nick gets left behind.

Followup to an exchange with u/gkostolny in this thread.
I emailed Judea Mulder, and she said SS conversions are okay.
I specifically asked her about pistols that were rostered and DROS'd as single-shots but later converted to semiauto. I specifically mentioned the CA320 with its serial on the FCU.
She said it would not be a problem, and ACSO had actually issued a CCW to someone with a similarly modified weapon.
You might have grandchildren by the time they actually issue the license, and you'll probably have to sell them to cover the fees, but at least they're permissive about what you can carry.
Do with this as you will.

12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12500H 2.50 GHz,
RTX 4050 6gb 75w TGP
16GB of RAM
and PCIe 4.0 NVMe 2280 512GB
BIOS FB03 (Latest BIOS update)
I installed couple of games like GTA IV (runs perfectly), GTA V (runs almost perfectly but there are some massive stutter after 2 min of playing), NFS Unbound (idk whats up with that one, after only 10 sec it starts stuttering like crazy and I when i activate Frame Gen it slows the game even more...).
People say that they had same issues with older g5 models and they updated their BIOS which fixed their issue, but for me there's only 2 BIOS updates available and they're the same version...

So what do I do because there's LITERALLY NOBODY on earth that seems to have the G5 MF 2023 with the same problem (i didnt see any threads about that whatsoever).

Hi everyone
I had my oil changed 3-4 months ago at my usual shop. Due to certain circumstances, I had to use a different shop for another issue.
The second shop did the work but also did an inspection and mentioned that my oil looks dirty and may need to be changed. Considering I had just done it very recently and the car was not driven much, I declined until I checked myself. The thing is, I have no idea if this is normal for fresh oil or not.
What do you think?

The car is a 2013 Jetta with about 100k km on it. I estimate that under 2k km were put on it since the oil was changed.

Hello! Any help is appreciated (before and incase this sub goes dark)
1- Anyone swapped their MBP's logic board (with the defective dgpu) for the 2012 equivalent? I personally love my 8,2 but am not fond of the limitations imposed by switching to igpu, and am not ready to give the laptop up yet. If you have swapped, what is your experience?
2- Any common issues for the 9,2 logic board to note before go for the swap?
3- Do you think it is a good idea/would you recommend the swap? Why/why not?
For reference, I might be able to get my hands on a new 9,2 logic board for the equivalent of ~$150 (in local currency)

Have a sapphire RX 7900 XTX. This is the reference model. Performs as expected stock. Got a GPU score of 29,100 on 3D mark Time Spy. This model shouldn't be experiencing hot spot issue. 7 minutes on Furmark say junction/hotspot temps reach no more than 80C.
Want to swap to a RTX 4080. Didn't think I would need the 4080 but I need the better applications of raytracing as well software compatibility from Nvidia. 7900 XTX runs just as well in games though plus 24GB of VRAM ensures that this would be futureproof.
I prefer Local and in around the GTA. I am the second owner of the 7900 XTX, I have the invoice from CC for warranty. I expect the same for the 4080. I prefer AIB models with preference to ASUS and Gigabyte models. I am willing to ship though. Cash +/- depending on the model.

Whether it be some sort of spectrum disorder or something else, I don't know how to be a viable human being in any sense of the word.
I know I have ADHD and this brings its own set of challenges. It is so hard for me to articulate very simple ideas. My head is just a mess of ideas that can't be articulated. All my attempts to do so feel like excretions from the brain, through my vocal chords and out, dripping from my mouth like gelatinous pulp. I can't focus on the bare bottom essentials of life. I live like an emotionally stunted hermit. I'm a blob taking in air and shitting out globs.
And that feels like I am barely scratching the surface. It's been suggested to me that I have autism by my therapist but this has never reached any satisfying conclusions or results in my life. I look into the symptoms and I either don't understand the specificities that they apparently refer to or I can't relate to them.
I probably shouldn't even think of myself in these terms, like autism, which I can't prove affect me nor can I manifest treatment out of. I should just look at results. I mainly suffer from issues with socialization.
I'm a complete weirdo. I have a tendency to silence. It is so easy for me to zone out, especially while looking at other people, and it makes me look like I am staring at them. It creeps them out. It's so hard to think of things to say to people and ,I'm already enough of a weird person as it is, nothing I say makes sense. Not a crumb. I talk like someone just cleaved off half my skull and I'm slowly bleeding out but not recognizing any of that due to shock. I talk faster than I think, both of which are at a terribly slow rate. I can go on and on without really making a point, because my brain hasn't developed it yet.
Human communication is a mystery to me. I don't get it. Every time I learn something, I say something that terribly offends and the other party just acts like I am supposed to know what the fuck they are angry about. I kind of just have to nod along and pretend that I know, as to not piss them off even more.
I can whine a bit more but I've lost my venting fix. This post has served its purpose to me. Goodbye.

It is not a glue seal issue, as there is some give. It is an assembly issue as the side began to slightly split the more force I applied. Just contacted BBTS sending them a video demonstrating it against a table. This is just sad, mainly since I am going to have very little free time next week to deal with this. I envy though who have loose joints, this isn't fun. Compared to the last defect this is less disastrous, but less convenient in any scenario for me to salvage it. Until I hear back, not touching it in case I need to return it. |

Hello everyone, I just bought this new gaming laptop that is the Gigabyte G5 MF of 2023, it has a:
12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12500H 2.50 GHz,
RTX 4050 6gb 75w TGP
16GB of RAM
and PCIe 4.0 NVMe 2280 512GB
BIOS FB03 (Latest BIOS update)
I installed couple of games like GTA IV (runs perfectly), GTA V (runs almost perfectly but there are some massive stutter after 2 min of playing), NFS Unbound (idk whats up with that one, after only 10 sec it starts stuttering like crazy and I when i activate Frame Gen it slows the game even more...).
People say that they had same issues with older g5 models and they updated their BIOS which fixed their issue, but for me there's only 2 BIOS updates available and they're the same version...

So what do I do because there's LITERALLY NOBODY on earth that seems to have the G5 MF 2023 with the same problem (i didnt see any threads about that whatsoever).

I’ve had my ozempic pen sitting in my fridge for a few months but have been too scared to take it. I’ve tried saxenda and viscoza in the past, years ago, and had horrible side effects (constant vomiting). I wanted to give it another try, since I’m older now, because I am seriously getting desperate. I’m nearly 24 and 75kg (5’3ft) because of PCOS. It’s been exhausting dealing with weight and body image issues. Every summer, I feel extra insecure about my body. I haven’t been to the beach in years and don’t like wearing summer clothes in general. I feel like I’m missing out on being a woman in her 20’s enjoying life and meeting guys. I haven’t even been in a relationship because my insecurities get the best of me. I hope I don’t sound too dramatic or extra. I’m very grateful for my life and am on a great career path and have a very supporting family but, my body affects me everyday. It’s not something a person can avoid and with the way social media is, it’s hard not to focus on your body when you literally see it everywhere. So, I decided to give it a try even though I’m extremely scared of the side effects. I’m open and grateful for any advice on side effects any of you had in your personal experience.

I am 37 currently working in environmental consulting, but would like to in the future complete a statistics MS degree. Has anyone taken courses from this university and how did you like the course? Did the MS statistics program you applied to give you any issues with applying these courses to the math prerequisites?

I am trying to be able to click on a contact and view all of that contact's activity, like, He called me, I called him, he texted me, I missed his call, etc.
The default response I keep seeing is that you can go to the Phone > Recents tab and then click a name and then click view history. However, this doesn't work if you haven't called them in months and they aren't anywhere near the top of your recents list to be found, and scrolling through your massive list of recents to try and spot their name is exactly what I am trying to avoid. That is why this should be accessible from within the contact itself, not from within some other tab of all your recents.
There is a very similar UI issue for texting, but texts have their history easily visible by default that isn't in some other window that I have to scroll through; clicking the contact and then the message symbol brings me right to the message thread with all messages visible, just 1 click away. I just wish clicking the phone button did something similar.
I guess I may just be a little spoiled from how Samsung handles all of this, where you don't need to click on anything, when you view a contact, all that empty space at the bottom is just automatically filled up with a useful list of recents.
