2023.03.24 17:28 VandyILL Radix Reddit Roundup #1: Ociswap!
Ociswap: Swap the Meow-y Way!
Lukas from Ociswap (Lukas.xrd) was kind enough to lend his time for a Q&A session on Telegram for this writeup, so cheers to him!
In Lukas’ words, Ociswap is a “decentralized exchange [DEX] for web3 users to explore and trade their web3 tokens. It’s like Uniswap with a much better experience, and you only need to care about which token will ‘moon’ and everything else is sorted for you.”
For those unfamiliar, Uniswap is an “Automated Market Maker” that relies on a liquidity pool, which is a reserve of paired tokens (e.g. OCI-XRD), and uses an algorithm to set the price of each asset so that there is always a price someone can pay if they want to take or send tokens to the exchange. Building a better DEX for these tickets to the moon is great, and it’s even better to see projects in the Radix ecosystem that care about fixing the user experience - in line with the RDXWork’s goal of improving the user experience - a must for obsoleting traditional finance.
So if you’re buying your moon tickets, you may be wondering why you have a cool cat, an ocicat, on the ride with you. During my conversation with Lukas the value that the team puts on branding and building something that connects with users was clear. Oci is simple, easy to remember, and is ‘sticky.’ (And fun, in my opinion!) Also, I forgive them for being cat people, but they are quite happy being radical in the crypto industry and taking a turn away from the overcrowded doggo and doge themed coins that have proliferated in the industry. Such Meow. So Purrr.
The value of Oci as a brand is so strong that Marco, one of the other founders (Lukas, Marco, Florian and Christoph), came up with the Oci mascot and designs before even deciding which type of dApp or tools he wanted to build on Radix. Of course, with such a strong mascot I had to ask “wen NFT” like a typical crypto degen, but Lukas said this conversation has happened in the community before, and if they do this they want to make sure they’re doing it right. And, with Lukas talking about how much more innovative a DEX can be on Radix this gives me hope that if there ever is an Oci NFT it will be a great product.
While the official Ocicat predates Ociswap, each of the founders also ended up coming together via their own paths that lead them to becoming Radvocates and contributing members of the community. This journey eventually led them to each other in the German Radix community created by Marco. Lukas talked about following Cassandra (Dan Hughes’ experimental test network), and watching the discussion and development of Tempo (a previous consensus mechanism developed by Dan for Radix that was ultimately scrapped because it would compromise atomic composability.) Lukas referred to this as “the path of Dan,” and I hope more and more people continue going down this path.
Each of the founders has different skill sets, so they’re a unique team. Lukas described his personal experience of just being a regular guy in the community, before eventually becoming a node runner and finally starting Ociswap.
Since combining forces and starting the project, Oci’s splash in the ecosystem (just like the splash campaigns they have with their cDEX (centralized Decentralized Exchange)), has been big, even earning them a coveted spot as one of the first 6 RDXWorks grant recipients.
Most of the work in conjunction with RDXWorks is under NDA, but it was clear that Florian & Lukas were in frequent contact with the RDXWorks team, and that they’re building towards the Consensus event in Austin Texas in April. This limits some of what they can share, but you can stay keyed into updates on their Telegram, Discord, Twitter and Reddit channels. Lukas also shared that there will be plenty more community activities leading up to Babylon, so keep your eyes open! They’re hoping to get out AMA’s, Twitter Spaces, press releases and more fun activities they want to play with. Lukas definitely seemed keen on experimenting with how to market a project like Ociswap, keeping the good and leaving the bad behind. In such a fast paced and new industry this seems like a great strategy.
With so much going on leading up to consensus and many projects still waiting for RCnet, I was curious if they had a gameplan of how they would need to cram to launch when Babylon goes live. Lukas assured me they’re always cramming, and with one of the most active Radix communities I fully believe it.
The Oci team’s research and thought process also makes me confident that they’re constantly cramming and trying to put as much useful functionality as possible into the DEX. In Lukas’s words, no project starts from 0 anymore, so the team looked at all the major DEXes on Ethereum, Solana, Avalanche and other places, not to copy them but to see what’s out there, what’s working and what’s not working. They viewed each of these projects with the lens of “what could be better,” and it sounds like they’re taking full advantage of Scrypto and the Radix Engine V2. On top of that, they’re not just accessing better technical and functional abilities enabled by asset orienting programming, but rethinking the user experience of a DEX, as that was something they found lacking with pretty much all current DEXes on other networks. The Oci team’s goal is to build solutions that are so easy to use that even people who aren’t crypto native can enjoy the experience.
With so much more to be built we spoke briefly on whether people really understand how much a composable, low cost DEX can actually impact finance, web3 and the world. Lukas was very articulate about how making banking available to all is huge, and also discussed the importance of a unified liquidity pool. With Radix and Ociswap people will be able to compose any transaction they want, and include swaps from the DEX as necessary. This is a much preferred solution to what limits liquidity on other networks, as L2’s and sharding solutions (outside Cerberus) break atomic composability. This break leaves the ecosystem with ‘scattered liquidity,’ much like how liquidity is scattered amongst TradFi banks in today’s world. Lukas is very forward looking and thinks this will yield a big shift in how we think about assets and will lead to all sorts of use cases that we can’t even imagine today.
Finally, when asking Lukas about how the community can pitch in if they want to see Ociswap succeed, he had a clear vision that you can’t just rely on other people to make things happen for you. Much like Lukas’ journey from community member, to node runner to dApp founder, things aren’t going to happen in the Radix ecosystem unless you go out and do them. He used the phrase “be your own influencer,” whether it’s a Tik Tok or Twitter account you want to make so you can push Radix content, or just dive into whatever opportunity you want in the ecosystem. Given this, the Oci team is going to be taking a very proactive approach to marketing and trying to get the community engaged, but they’re not going to make their success contingent on someone else pushing Oci to where they want it to go, and where it’s capable of taking the whole Radix ecosystem.

- Rep. Foster (Cryptophobe): “this is the essential thing that has to be provided for the healthy development of the crypto industry…somewhere there has to be an API provided by a trusted 3rd party to register your crypto wallets.” Why not just completely neuter crypto? https://www.youtube.com/live/aOUUy4_KwNU?feature=share&t=5266
- Rep. Ritchie Torres (Pro-Crypto) pointed out offshore deregulated overleveraged centralized crypto companies pose the greatest risk to consumers. But, the regulators don’t focus there. They incredibly only attack the onshore entities. He also pointed out the absurdity of the idea a stablecoin is a security. (Sadly there’s the Section 2(a)(1) exposure). https://www.youtube.com/live/aOUUy4_KwNU?feature=share&t=5703
- Rep. Davidson (Pro-Crypto) shamed his anti-crypto colleagues for their implied claims that these assets are the same as centralized assets and came out strongly supporting self-custody and pointed out there was no FTX risk if you self-custodied your assets. “We have people overtly trying to make self-custody illegal.” https://www.youtube.com/live/aOUUy4_KwNU?feature=share&t=6034

- Now we’re dealing with U.S. bank runs. Among the casualties was Silicon Valley Bank where Centre (the Circle/Coinbase joint entity that issues USDC) was keeping $3.3 billion of the $43ish billion backing USDC. - The Feds were taking bids for anyone to acquire SVB until 2pm Eastern on Sunday. The big question on Sunday was whether the Feds will cover all uninsured depositors. They decided they will and that also applies to Signature Bank. https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2023/03/12/silicon-valley-bank-deposits/
- Here’s the joint statement from Treasury, Federal Reserve, and FDIC. https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/jy1337
- Yellen said NO to a bailout for SVB on Sunday. She’s obviously got bigger macro concerns. But, it’s funny how that fits perfectly with a strategy of suppressing stablecoins generally. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/janet-yellen-silicon-valley-bank-bailout-face-the-nation-interview-today-2023-03-12/

But, the mainstream reach of crypto is undeniably growing. https://le.utah.gov/~2023/bills/static/HB0357.html
- Sen. Lummis killed it in a recent hearing defending the energy use in crypto. It’s less relevant for us in Cardano since we’re not PoW. But, still entertaining to watch. https://twitter.com/DocumentingBTC/status/1633214192437084161

He predicted the impact of the internet would be about as much as the fax machine and has subsequently opposed crypto. https://twitter.com/paulkrugman/status/1633472068355346437 https://twitter.com/mdudas/status/1633571193344126979

- Big Pey is launching something called Atrium Lab. https://twitter.com/bigpeyYT/status/1633830948575010816
- Believe it or not…legal systems made up entirely by coders may not be optimal. Incredibly, the study of law is actually a fully developed centuries old academic discipline that lies outside of JavaScript and Python. Unless you have full anonymity, you WILL be cross-chain bridged to IRL law. Some DAOs will learn this the hard way. https://twitter.com/lex_node/status/1633925979004436481
- The NY Attorney General just filed against Kucoin for being an unregistered broker-dealer. Here’s the important part: they’re alleging that ETH is a security and a commodity. Their argument is not complex...it’s very straightforward. https://www.docdroid.net/Myyp0yz/kucoin-pdf
- Silvergate was a failure of fractional reserve banking, not of crypto. https://twitter.com/CaitlinLong_/status/1633608132713938945
- The current US Administration’s Budget seeks to eliminate tax loss harvesting for crypto, add a 30% tax on energy used in crypto mining, hike capital gains taxes on high earners, and beam us directly to clown world with an unrealized gains tax on high earners. https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/budget_fy2023.pdf
- The subcommittee hearing on “the Administration’s Attack” on crypto went about like expected. Paul Grewal of Coinbase along with Prof. Evans of Penn State Law made some persuasive pleas for regulatory clarity. The “Anti-Crypto Party”™ also brought out their favorite witness from Duke. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOUUy4_KwNU
- Rep. Emmer (Pro-Crypto) called the current regulatory approach “lazy & destructive…that is chilling innovation.” https://www.youtube.com/live/aOUUy4_KwNU?feature=share&t=5670
- CMC is tweeting about IOG’s Sidechain toolkit? https://twitter.com/CoinMarketCap/status/1634773712468852736
- Now we’re dealing with U.S. bank runs. Among the casualties was Silicon Valley Bank where Centre (the Circle/Coinbase joint entity that issues USDC) was keeping $3.3 billion of the $43ish billion backing USDC. Signature Bank was also shut down by regulators. https://www.forbes.com/sites/digital-assets/2023/03/11/43-billion-nightmare-sudden-circle-depeg-could-be-about-to-crash-the-price-of-bitcoin-ethereum-bnb-xrp-cardano-dogecoin-polygon-and-solana
- Unfortunately, the FDIC insurance limit is $250k. https://www.fdic.gov/resources/deposit-insurance/brochures/deposits-at-a-glance/
- The Feds were taking bids for anyone to acquire SVB until 2pm Eastern on Sunday. The big question on Sunday was whether the Feds will cover all uninsured depositors. They decided they will and that also applies to Signature Bank. https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2023/03/12/silicon-valley-bank-deposits/
- Here’s the joint statement from Treasury, Federal Reserve, and FDIC. https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/jy1337
- Yellen said NO to a bailout for SVB on Sunday. She’s obviously got bigger macro concerns. But, it’s funny how that fits perfectly with a strategy of suppressing stablecoins generally. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/janet-yellen-silicon-valley-bank-bailout-face-the-nation-interview-today-2023-03-12/
- Here Caitlin Long explains the fundamental incompatibility between fast settling crypto and fractional reserve banking that caused all this. https://twitter.com/CaitlinLong_/status/1634573552790929409

- This is one of the craziest things I’ve seen in crypto. Balaji is burning a few million to ring the fire alarm and make everyone aware of what he believes is an impending attack on dollar holders. Counterparty is guaranteed $1million (minus BTC price) if he just buys one additional BTC (or an option to purchase more). https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1636827051419389952
- Here’s the Space where he explains his bet. https://twitter.com/Breedlove22/status/1637236255242219520

- This is officially the worst regulatory approach ever. https://twitter.com/BillHughesDC/status/1636067729575690241
- The SEC hide the ball game seems to conflict with how judges actually view the law. https://twitter.com/SGJohnsson/status/1636071530340728832
- The Fed Quietly opened the swap lines with other central banks on Sunday night. https://www.federalreserve.gov/newsevents/pressreleases/monetary20230319a.htm
- Here’s why they are opening the swap lines: so that US treasuries don’t get dumped on the open market by foreign banks. This way the foreign central banks can have dollars to absorb the treasuries from the foreign banks. https://twitter.com/CryptoHayes/status/1637620774776315904
- Charles dropped a video on Markets and Contagion in which he revealed that Credit Suisse wouldn’t allow an account when he was with Ethereum b/c crypto was “too risky.” Bwahahahaha. https://twitter.com/IOHK_Charles/status/1637952165217185792

- More aerostat activity out of World Mobile. This time in New Hampshire. https://twitter.com/WorldMobileTeam/status/1637926277905522689
- You gotta admit. Balaji is genius at inventing new tag lines. First it was “We are all bitcoin maximalists now.” Today it’s “Fed around and find out.” https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1638349643854786560
- Apparently, Sushi Swap DAO and its “Head Chef” just got served with an SEC subpoena and they’re asking the community for a $3 million defense fund (with potential for more). https://forum.sushi.com/t/establish-sushi-legal-defense-fund/11813
- The crypto twitter meme response to the Sushi SEC subpoena was fast and brutal. https://twitter.com/trhistorianelt/status/1638231852619104256
- People are now suggesting that no member of the Sushi Swap DAO should be in the US. https://twitter.com/tundra_v1/status/1638274785728929793
- Very interesting rumors that projects are sitting on 2-300 SEC subpoenas and dozens of Wells Notices. https://coinpedia.org/ripple/xrp-price-have-the-xrp-bulls-and-whales-given-up-ahead-of-the-summary-judgment/

2023.03.22 20:19 Soulphie Browser downloads slow af, i think my Gigabyte board is at fault
I recently switched to a Gigabyte x670 Gaming X, a hughe upgrade from what i had.
When seting up my pc i noticed that my downloads in my browser were realy slow, like 13-80Kbps. I updated my bios, my drivers for ethernet, Chipset and everything else i could think of that might be the problem. But here is the kicker, everything else works fine, Youtube in 4k? no problem. Downloading games on GOG epic and steam? Faster then ever. Only Browser downloads and an loading websites that arent the most well known sites (twitter, youtube, instagram) are extremly slow.
I read that Cfos speed (a program that comes with the Gigabyte software center) can do that so i uninstalled that, still slow. i reinstalled windows, still slow. I reinstalled windows, cleared Cmos and disabled the Gigabyte Center thingy in the Bios and then it was fine, for like a week, now its back. Does anybody have any experiance with Gigabytes virus of a software package that they want to install with every Boot?

- CMC is tweeting about IOG’s Sidechain toolkit? https://twitter.com/CoinMarketCap/status/1634773712468852736
- Now we’re dealing with U.S. bank runs. Among the casualties was Silicon Valley Bank where Centre (the Circle/Coinbase joint entity that issues USDC) was keeping $3.3 billion of the $43ish billion backing USDC. Signature Bank was also shut down by regulators. https://www.forbes.com/sites/digital-assets/2023/03/11/43-billion-nightmare-sudden-circle-depeg-could-be-about-to-crash-the-price-of-bitcoin-ethereum-bnb-xrp-cardano-dogecoin-polygon-and-solana
- Unfortunately, the FDIC insurance limit is $250k. https://www.fdic.gov/resources/deposit-insurance/brochures/deposits-at-a-glance/
- The Feds were taking bids for anyone to acquire SVB until 2pm Eastern on Sunday. The big question on Sunday was whether the Feds will cover all uninsured depositors. They decided they will and that also applies to Signature Bank. https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2023/03/12/silicon-valley-bank-deposits/
- Here’s the joint statement from Treasury, Federal Reserve, and FDIC. https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/jy1337
- Yellen said NO to a bailout for SVB on Sunday. She’s obviously got bigger macro concerns. But, it’s funny how that fits perfectly with a strategy of suppressing stablecoins generally. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/janet-yellen-silicon-valley-bank-bailout-face-the-nation-interview-today-2023-03-12/
- Here Caitlin Long explains the fundamental incompatibility between fast settling crypto and fractional reserve banking that caused all this. https://twitter.com/CaitlinLong_/status/1634573552790929409
- CZ reminds us that he’s considered buying banks in the past and asks if it’s time yet. https://twitter.com/cz_binance/status/1634437834579800064
- CIP-1694 has been updated. https://github.com/JaredCorduan/CIPs/blob/voltaire-v1/CIP-1694/README.md
- Here’s a good rundown of all the changes in the CIP-1694 update. https://twitter.com/_KtorZ_/status/1635410495514759169
- Apparently, Cardano NFTs will be going to space! https://twitter.com/RichardMcCrackn/status/1635438087592460288
- Many in the crypto space think that Signature’s shutdown was just an extension of Operation Chokepoint 2.0 aimed at shuttering crypto banking. https://twitter.com/nic__cartestatus/1635328056234766337

2023.03.21 22:12 Zeedub85 Graduate social media updates
Been wanting to do this for a while. I can't do it like the ones from a few years back, because I simply am hopeless at extracting photos and videos from twitter and instagram and the like. All I can do is link and comment. Anyway, some recent SM updates from various graduates. I'm literally looking them up as I compose this post. It will not be all-inclusive.
MIKU:
Her sister has also joined her new agency. If you follow Miku's TikTok, you've seen her
sister.
@ONEFIVE: They have a
live coming up in April, KANO will be on
Super Invincible Class on March 26, and
SOYO will be appearing in Weekly Playboy no. 15, out on March 27. (a reminder that this Japanese Weekly Playboy is not like Hugh Heffner's Playboy, it's just a normal gravure magazine).
RAURA: is doing
something, I can't quite tell what this is, maybe someone can help, but I believe it's a stage production of some kind. Point is she's working.
AIRI: is also working of course. This is her
latest staff tweet about her latest TV show.
HINATA continues to be busy, including
working out. I could swear I saw something about Revue Starlight being at Animelo '23, but I can't find it now. That's the anime music festival that Karen Girl's appeared at in '08.
MIRENA has tweeted a bunch about the show she's in, including this retweet with
some video. Instantly recognizable despite the wig because she has the loudest eyes in showbiz.
Jumping over to TikTok, here are a couple @onefive vids.
KANO/SOYO(pyon).
KANO/GUMI. As always, they're too short and stop right before they really go off. I want to see GUMI go off.
SAKI O. Still doing her influencer thing.
She looks good in a suit.
YUME_JUNA: Juna dropped
this one a couple weeks ago. I not ready for Juna to level up just yet.
This one was for Yume's graduation from jr. high.
HANA and OTOHA
announcing their YouTube channel. Been too long since they've done a
dance challenge.
And finally, AIKO. After starting her Tiktok channel, she hasn't done a thing with it. However, she HAS just posted two stories to her old Instagram. Nothing major. One was a clip of her with one of those dog face filters (Hinata posted a similar one on the same day), and the other was about Japan's victory over Mexico in the World Baseball Classic. Mariri posted a story about that too, of course. I forgot to mention Mariri. I've kind of lost track, but she appears to be in just about every gravure magazine, including a
brand new one. This is called "striking while the iron is hot." Or body, in this case.
